Southern-Style Meatloaf Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ lbs ground beef (80/20)

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 1 bell pepper, finely chopped (optional)

  • 1 egg

  • ¾ cup milk

  • ¾ cup breadcrumbs or crushed crackers

  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • Salt & pepper to taste

  • ½ cup ketchup (for topping)

  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1 tsp mustard (optional, for glaze)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, chopped onion, egg, milk, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire, and seasonings. Mix gently until just combined.

  3. Form into a loaf and place in a baking dish.

  4. In a small bowl, mix ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard. Spread evenly on top of meatloaf.

  5. Bake for 1 hour or until internal temperature reaches 160°F.

  6. Let rest 10 minutes before slicing.
