Traditional Bread Pudding with Warm Vanilla Custard

🍞 Ingredients

For the Bread Pudding

  • 6 cups cubed day-old bread (brioche, French bread, challah, or white bread)

  • 3 large eggs

  • 2 cups whole milk

  • 1 cup heavy cream

  • ¾ cup granulated sugar

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • ¼ tsp nutmeg

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • 3 tbsp melted butter

  • Optional: ½ cup raisins or chocolate chips

For the Warm Vanilla Custard Sauce

  • 1 ½ cups whole milk

  • 1 cup heavy cream

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • 3 egg yolks

  • 2 tbsp cornstarch

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract (or 1 vanilla bean)

  • 2 tbsp butter

Step 1 — Prepare the Bread

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).

  2. Lightly grease a baking dish.

  3. Cut bread into medium cubes and place them evenly in the dish.
