Traditional Bread Pudding with Warm Vanilla Custard

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together:

    • eggs

    • milk

    • heavy cream

    • sugar

    • cinnamon

    • nutmeg

    • vanilla

    • salt

  2. Pour this mixture evenly over the bread.

  4. Let rest for 10–15 minutes.

Step 3 — Bake

  1. Drizzle melted butter over the top.

  2. Bake for 45–55 minutes, or until the top is golden and the center is set.

  3. Remove from the oven and cool slightly.

🍮 Step 4 — Make the Warm Vanilla Custard (Sauce)

  1. In a saucepan, whisk together sugar and cornstarch.

  2. Add milk and cream and mix well.

  3. Heat over medium heat until warm (but not boiling).

  4. In a bowl, whisk the egg yolks.

  5. Slowly pour a little warm mixture into the yolks to temper them.

  6. Return everything to the pan.

  7. Cook on low heat, stirring continuously, until it thickens.

  8. Remove from heat and add vanilla + butter.

  9. Stir until smooth and glossy.

🍽️ Step 5 — Serve

Serve warm bread pudding drizzled generously with the warm vanilla custard.
Dust with powdered sugar or cinnamon for perfection 😍✨

❤️ Tips for the Best Bread Pudding

  • Use day-old bread — it absorbs custard better.

  • Add raisins soaked in rum for a classic twist.

  • For a richer custard, replace sugar with brown sugar.

  • Serve with ice cream or whipped cream for extra indulgence.
