Southern Baked Beans with Smoked Sausage & Ground Beef

A rich, meaty, flavor-packed bean bake loaded with sausage, beef, peppers, onions, and bold seasoning.

Ingredients

Protein & Base

  • 1 lb smoked sausage (e.g., kielbasa or beef sausage), sliced

  • 1/2 to 1 lb ground beef

  • 3 (15 oz) cans of baked beans (like Bush’s Original or similar)

  • 5–6 slices bacon (optional, chopped or cooked and crumbled)

Vegetables

  • 1 small green bell pepper, diced

  • 1 small red or orange bell pepper, diced

  • 1 medium onion, chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Sauce & Flavor

  • 1/2 cup ketchup

  • 1/4 cup barbecue sauce (smoky or sweet)

  • 2 tbsp yellow mustard or Dijon

  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (light or dark)

  • 1–2 tbsp apple cider vinegar

  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

  • Crushed red pepper or hot sauce (optional for heat)


Instructions

1. Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

2. Brown the Meat

  • In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium-high heat until fully browned. Drain excess fat.

  • Add sliced sausage and cook together until sausage edges start to brown.

  • Remove meat from pan and set aside.
